Your baby is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. He now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. He's shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered his body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected his skin during his nine-month amniotic bath. Your baby swallows both of these substances, along with other secretions, resulting in a blackish mixture, called meconium, will form the contents of her first bowel movement.
At the end of this week, your baby will be considered full-term. (Full-term is 37 to 42 weeks; babies born before 37 weeks are pre-term and those born after 42 are post-term.)

We went to a doctor visit this morning. Everything is moving along nicely (but slow). BP was 130/70! Very Happy about this! Fundal height is measuring at 38 wks (2 wks ahead). Baby's heart rate was 143 bpm. He did the Strep B test which we will get results back the next week. He also checked me for dilatation...I was a fingertip...not even a 1...bummer. He looked back at my charts with Maddie where he noticed that I measured a fingertip with her too at 36 wks. Let the mall walking begin! She said "Baby Murphy will LOVE this!" She is SO excited to finally meet him. She asks many times a day, "When will baby brudder get here?" She knows that he will come in July but she does not understand months yet.
