"Uh-Oh, He's falling over AGAIN!"

So in the last post I told you how much Murphy lights up every time Maddie is around, well watch these two interact with each other! Shane and I were just laughing at them!
We would prop Murphy up and he would fall towards Madelyn then dig his head into her! She thought this was hilarious!! The funny thing is after falling over several times you would think that he would get tired of it but I propped him back up probably 10 times and he never whimpered! It seemed like he was enjoying himself too!
(What a cutie! I mean Seriously!)

Sweet big Sister

I had propped Murphy against Madelyn's pillow on her bed while I picked up a few toys. Before I knew it, Maddie hopped on her bed with a book and sat right beside Murphy and began reading him a book. It was so sweet! Its funny how much little Murphy lights up when Madelyn is around! He watches her every move! They are becoming good buddies! I'm pretty sure that his first laugh will be at her, I just can't wait to hear it!
(little buddy looks like he's packing for winter in his cheeks!)

2 Month Well Visit

Murphy weighed 13lbs.6.5 oz.(80%)
23 inches in Height (50%)
16 inches Head Circumference (65%)

Murphy got put on reflux medication. Reflux is a side effect of Laryngomalcia. He also got 5 shots and one oral. YUCK! I hated to see him scream! Other than that, we have a very happy, healthy big boy!

~Our Little Gander~

Since about 1 week old Murphy has been making the strangest sound. He sounds like a zebra when he's not breathing hard and sounds like a goose when he's excited. At his 2 week appointment we brought the sound up to our peditrition. He said that it's okay that he makes this sound as long as it does not start at night. Well this past he started making the sound at night. So lound in fact that it wakes Shane and I up many times during the course of the night! So yesterday I took Murphy back to see Dr. Godfrey. It has a diagnosis...Laryngomalacia. Here is some info on it...

~What is laryngomalacia? Laryngomalacia is the most frequent cause of stridor or noisy breathing in infants. It occurs as a result of a floppy portion of the larynx (voice box) that has not yet developed the strength to provide rigid support of the airway. During inspiration, negative pressure is created through the larynx, which results in a collapse of these structures into the airway and a narrower breathing passage. The partial obstruction is the source of the noise with breathing.

~What are the characteristics of laryngomalacia? The hallmark sign includes a high pitched or squeaky intermittent sound noted mostly on inspiration. It is usually more prominent when the infant is lying on his/her back, crying, feeding, excited or has a cold. This is usually first noticed in the first few weeks of life. It may worsen over the first few months and become louder. This is because as the baby grows, the inspiratory force is greater, which causes greater collapse of the laryngeal structures into the airway. This is usually at it’s worst at 3-6 months and then gradually improves as the rigidity of the cartilage improves. Most children are symptom free by 12 months.

It's really not harmful but there are a few thing we have to look for.

~having trouble eating, trouble breathing, sleeping and reflux.

~Relfux -All infants have some reflux to some degree or another. However, infants with laryngomalacia often have more stomach acid reflux than others. When the stomach acid regurgitates to the level of the voice box, it can cause further swelling of the airway and worsening of the noisy breathing. Children with this condition do better if lying on their sides or stomachs, sitting upright or at a 30-degree angle. The child should also be held in an upright position for 30 minutes after feeding and never fed lying down. If the reflux is significant, medicine may be prescribed and thickening of feeds may be recommended.

So..there's really nothing that we can do except let him grow out of it. I guess little man won't be attending many church services with us either. I must say that it a little funny to hear it though. By the way our little Gander weighed a whopping 12lbs. 13oz at the doctors office!

Madelyn's FIRST Day of School!

Madelyn started school on Tuesday! She was so excited when she woke up that morning! She talked so much during breakfast I had to make her stop so that she could eat!
(SO super EXCITED!)
She wanted to make silly pictures for the camera...
All packed and ready for school!
Headed out the door!
She was a little nervous when we got there but luckily we parked right beside the Hudsons. Madelyn and Audrey walked in together! Sadly they're not in the same class but they'll see each other from time to time.
Madelyn's class friend, Izzy.
Madelyn holding up her school folder. The folder is sent home everyday with a sheet that tells parents how their child did that day.
Maddie's sheet said: "Madelyn is super sweet and really smart! She ate all of her lunch and rested well."
This makes Mommy happy;)
(Madelyn and her teacher, Mrs. Stephany)
Maddie loves Mrs. Stephany, she talks about her everyday!

Can you you believe it?!...No tears were shed by Madelyn nor Mommy! Although I still can't believe my little girl is in school now...(tear...sniffles)
It gives me time with Murphy and a chance to get our house cleaned!
